These earrings are made with white lace which is carefully cut and hand stitched. The ear wires are sterling silver and are also hand shaped. They are embellished with small deep purple or almond coloured pearls.

This hair ornament is made with white lace petals, which were cut out of a larger piece of lace and stitched together by hand (the edges are also sewn to keep them from fraying). It is lightly starched to hold it’s shape. In the centre is a shiny vintage button surrounded by a sprinkling of little black seed beads and a small brown freshwater pearl. It is sewn on a stretchy black headband that will fit anyone comfortably.
I had the bright idea of planting side walk chalk around the neighbourhood so I could go back and document how people interact with it. I was really excited about the idea of finding anonymous drawings or words from the people who pass by the same places I do. I figured any one could use it guilt free since there would be no damage done.
I was surprised to see that many sticks of chalk later there were still no drawings or markings, but all the chalk was gone. It seems that people like to take the chalk and save it for later (I suppose). Or perhaps that even though the chalk wouldn’t harm anything they still felt that they couldn’t freely make their mark in public. This in itself is kind of interesting.
I am going to keep trying and I’ll post any results I get. I just have to wait for the next dry sunny day, we get a lot of rain here on the east coast, so I need to be extra careful that the chalk and the drawings don’t wash away.
These little dangles are made from sterling silver, chaotic green lace (made by me) and small pink glass rondelles. They remind me of little pods, lichen and jelly beans : P

Crepes up close look a bit like the surface of some alien planet.
I found this recipe when I was traveling around France as an angsty sixteen year old. It has served me well ever since.
Crepes are so easy and make for a great dessert in a pinch. In order to properly cook them make sure your pan is preheated before you put the batter in the pan. I use a ladle and swirl the batter around in the pan as I ladle it on, so it makes a nice thin crepe. Then you just have to sit back and wait until the edges are firm. This recipe releases easily from even my hardest to deal with pan once it is ready. I prefer to use a heavy bottom stainless steel pan, you can get lovely pans just for making crepes if you enjoy it. I used to work at a place that sold nice black steel ones, they needed a little extra care (seasoning), but they made the best crepes.
Classic Crepes
1 soup spoon of oil
1 soup spoon of brown sugar
150ml flour (a little more than 1/2 cup, which is 125)
100ml water
150ml milk
2 eggs
Using a little whisk or electric mixer beat together all the ingredients except the milk and water for a minute or so. Gradually add the liquid and stir until there are no lumps. For a sweet treat serve with banana, maple syrup or chocolate chips. A nice desert combination is cooked apples with cinnamon with vanilla ice cream. They are also great with savoury things like potatoes, cheese and spinach.
